Riot Games - Collegiate League of Legends & Valorant Finals

I had the unique opportunity to assist for the Riot Games’ League of Legends and Valorant Collegiate Finals hosted at NC State University. For the event I initially intended on helping day of events wherever needed, however that quickly evolved into me becoming the creative director and producer for the player/team videos that were shot in the Virtual Production Lab at NC State College of Design. Those videos were used in the hype intros created by GGTech Entertainment

Initially, there were no plans to produce this style of player intros. However, I felt it was important to give the college-level esports teams the same level of treatment as professional players. Having little experience in video production I took it upon myself to use this as a chance to challenge myself and learn more about aspects of media production that I wish to explore further.

I proposed the concept and conducted test shoots in the Virtual Production Lab to explore its feasibility, edited the video myself and the results turned out pretty sweet. GGTech was impressed and approved the idea. I led the coordination and scheduling. With the support of Virtual Production Manager Ryan Khan, who filmed the intros, we were able to create something pretty cool.

During the run-up to the event and on event days, I supported various aspects of production, collaborating with different teams including media, broadcast, and other event staff as needed. I was also responsible for capturing all player head shots for broadcast use, merch photos, trophy photos and event photography that was featured on social media during and after the event.

Below is the proof of concept test, broadcast capture of the hype video created by GGTech where the B-roll was used, screenshots where photos were used on social media, and some photography from the event. If you would like to see more photos, visit the photos section of my site.

There was also an article that was published on the NC State College of Design website about the project!
